Isle of Man Public Services

The Isle of Man Public Service is a large employer with around 9,000 people, roughly 10% of the population. It is organized into eight departments and various boards and offices that report to the Council of Ministers.     Manx Care is a significant part of the Isle of Man Public Service, growing by 427 posts since 2021, with almost 95% of the new roles created in Manx Care. 

  • Infrastructure:
    The Department of Infrastructure provides a variety of services including highways maintenance, waste management, and emergency response capabilities. 

  • Customs and Excise:
    This division focuses on customs and excise duties, contributing to the funding of public services. 

  • External Relations:
    The External Relations division supports international relationships, including engagement with the UK, and manages communications and public relations. 

  • International Identity:
    The Isle of Man is a British Crown Dependency with its own legal and tax system, but it is not part of the EU.

  • Reciprocal Healthcare: The Isle of Man has a reciprocal healthcare agreement with the UK.
