Salary: ‘London-based salary £48,488 and non-London based salary £43,990 per annum FTE, (salary to be on a pro-rata basis) + Excellent Benefits’

Hours: 3 days / week

The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) is the professional body for speech and language therapists in the United Kingdom (UK). We support and represent over 20,000 members while operating nationally across our office and members hubs in London, Belfast, Edinburgh and Cardiff. Our mission is to improve the lives of people with communication and swallowing needs by facilitating and promoting research, producing guidance, holding events, and influencing government. We aim to promote better education and training for speech and language therapists and provide information to our members and the public about speech and language therapy.
We are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our team to cover a Parental Leave position as Research Manager for 12 months. This role sits within the Research & Outcomes sub-team of the Professional Development team, providing a range of services, including: encouraging research and supporting development of the evidence base relating to speech & language therapy (SLT),  developing SLT research capability, capacity, culture, and context, creating research and professional development resources and responding to enquiries related to clinical practice, professional practice, and research. The role is part time, 3 days per week and would be ideal for a Speech and Language Therapist with experience of research and evidence-based practice who is looking to develop more senior skills in these areas.
Reporting to the Head of Research and Outcomes, the Research Manager has delegated lead responsibility for the scoping, management, delivery and evaluation of a portfolio of research related projects to support the Professional Development function.
The ideal candidate will be a Speech and Language Therapist and a current member of the RCSLT, have research related academic qualifications or experience, a strong understanding of evidence-based practice and research methodologies and managerial experience. The candidate will have great interpersonal skills and have experience with carrying out literature searches, working within a team and managing multiple on-going tasks. This role would also be suited to those looking at secondment opportunities to further gain greater experience and knowledge. 

Our Ideal Candidate will have:
  • Experience carrying out literature searches, critically appraising, synthesising, and applying evidence
  • Experience carrying out evaluation of clinical practice using outcome measures, data analysis, service evaluation, audit, quality improvement and/or research
  • Verbal and written presentation experience of the evidence base, evaluations and/or research
  • The ability to manage multiple on-going tasks and processes
  • Experience working collaboratively as part of a team environment in health, education or social care
  • Experience of undertaking projects where consultation, facilitation and collaboration were key features
  • Experience of working with a variety of stakeholder groups and building professional networks
  • Experience of leadership, line-management, and budget management.
