Speech and Language Therapist

Ruskin Mill College is the founding college of Ruskin Mill Trust. Located in the Cotswolds, the 140-acre site includes a  wooded valley, a trout farm, market gardens, sustainably managed woodlands and a biodynamic farm. Nestled in the  landscape are craft workshops including pottery, forge, textiles and woodwork.  

Established in 1984, Ruskin Mill Trust is an educational charity that operates in England, Scotland and Wales. We offer exciting outdoor learning environments, utilising practical land and craft activities to support the development of  work and life skills in young people with autistic spectrum conditions and other learning differences. Our research-led  method, Practical Skills Therapeutic Education, is inspired by the work of Rudolf Steiner, John Ruskin and William Morris.  Working with hand, head, heart and place, Ruskin Mill Trust helps individuals to re-imagine their potential.

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPIST 

40 hours per week, 42 weeks a year 

FTE Salary range: £42,517 - £48,429 per annum 

Actual Salary Range based on 42 weeks: £40,352 - £45,963 

(salary includes a £2k market supplement) 

Based at Ruskin Mill College, Nailsworth

The purpose of the role is to work therapeutically with specific or small groups of students of adolescent age, based  on assessments of the student’s support and developmental needs. As a Speech and Language Therapist with the  Trust, you would have the opportunity to:

• Deliver appropriate interventions, including informal and formal assessment through observation  and staff/parent/carer liaison  
• Deliver weekly direct (1:1), small group and class-based interventions, including therapy in the craft and  outdoor space 
• Have time to plan individualized, functional, student-centred programs across a variety of contexts  (school-based, community-based, bakery, craft, land-based at our biodynamic farm – depending on the  needs of the students). 
• Manage your own caseload, ensuring coverage of EHCP targets and student need, nurturing solid working  relationships with staff and students. 
• The opportunity to facilitate meaningful change with hands-on intervention and practice. • Protected time for reflection and MDT liaison with the therapies team, staff and wider trust as well the  opportunities to upskill staff to embed practices across the curriculum. 

To undertake this position successfully you will have: 

• BSc in Clinical Communication Studies or BSc in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent
• A member of the Health and care professions council in the UK

The successful applicant will take part in an interactive induction to experience the crafts within the curriculum  and experience the student journey. You would also be provided with financial support toward the cost of clinical  supervisions.
