The Service & Team:
The small, friendly Communication Support Team works with schools and educational settings to improve educational outcomes for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs ( SLCN). The team comprises speech and language therapists, assistants and advisory teachers. We provide training and carry out advisory work as well as carrying out some individual casework. We are an active part of the SEND Support Services and collaborate closely with a wide range of other professionals. We take pride in supporting our team members to develop professionally.
The Role:
We work with children and young people (0-25) who have a range of SLCN and the teams around them. We work with staff in schools and settings to improve universal provision alongside developing targeted approaches through training and high quality written reports. We also work closely with the Statutory SEN Team to provide specialist assessments, advice and some interventions.
We develop and provide high quality, accessible training for other colleagues such as social care and trainee teachers both on line and face to face.
We work with our colleagues in SEND Support Services to provide high quality generic SEND training. This role is to work mainly in the east/ mid areas of Cornwall. You will work closely with speech and language therapy assistants and provide professional supervision.
This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.
This position will be subject to a enhanced criminal record disclosure check.
What you’ll need to succeed:
The role is for a qualified and experienced speech and language therapist who has a passion for special educational needs and relishes the opportunity to work with colleagues in education. You will have experience of multi-disciplinary working and be child and family centred in your working practices.
You will have a high standard of spoken and written communication. You will be able to use a range of IT programmes competently to support your role. You will be able to manage your own time effectively and efficiently as well as enjoy working as part of a team.
You will need to be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and have a commitment to ongoing continuing professional development.
