Part-time at 3 days per week but open to discussions and negotiations. This is a 52-week paid position, working 39-week term time with 8 weeks paid holiday and 5 weeks non-contact time.

Are you motivated to work in a school where the vision is to always put the individual needs of the students first? Are you enthused by the prospect of supporting an ethos of inclusion, compassion, individuality and seeing the good in everyone?

We are looking to appoint a versatile and talented Speech and Language Therapist in our unique day and residential school, which caters for boys aged 9 to 19, who are primarily diagnosed with ASC and experience other complex needs such as PDA, ADHD, Dyslexia, and Dyspraxia.

Breckenbrough is a picturesque non-maintained special school set in the heart of North Yorkshire with 70 students on roll. As a school with a Quaker ethos, we pride ourselves on our shared values of equality, respect, tolerance, honesty, forgiveness, and conflict resolution, as we strive to attain the best outcomes possible for all our students.

If you have an appreciation of how a nurturing and caring environment can support all children to grow into happy and successful individuals, you will make a great addition to our team.

The successful applicant will:

  • Work alongside the SEN team to support our students and to provide specialist direct and indirect therapy. Your work will include addressing sensory processing difficulties, anxiety and emotional regulation difficulties, motor and perceptual skills and functional life skills.
  • Have proven high quality experience of supporting students with a range of complex needs. Knowledge of successful strategies for meeting the needs of young people with autism is essential, as is an understanding of behaviour and strategies to support students with high levels of anxiety.
  • Be a professional individual who is prepared to work flexibly in a vibrant, caring, and supportive environment, with students who really appreciate a staff team who are reliable and compassionate.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following attributes:

  • A recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree/qualification
  • Registration with the Health Care Professionals Council as a Speech and Language Therapist
  • 1-2 years proven experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist with people on the autistic spectrum, preferred but not essential.

We would encourage potential applicants to arrange a visit to the school or make arrangements for an informal discussion about the post prior to making an application.

Breckenbrough School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
