Speech and Language Therapist - Specialist School (Local Area)

Location: Specialist School in the area Full-time Permanent? HCPC & RCSLT Registration Required

A specialist school in the local area is seeking a committed Speech and Language Therapist to join its multi-disciplinary team. You'll support children and young people with a range of communication, learning and social-emotional needs, helping shape a whole-school therapeutic provision.

As part of a supportive team including psychology, behaviour specialists, teachers and therapy assistants, you'll deliver assessments, intervention and training that make a real difference to students' daily lives.

The Role

  • Complete initial and ongoing speech, language and communication assessments
  • Produce clear clinical reports and contribute to EHCP reviews
  • Plan, deliver and review individualised communication programmes
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group interventions, including social communication work
  • Create communication aids such as visuals, Social Stories and timetables
  • Support a Total Communication approach across the school
  • Work collaboratively with staff, families and external agencies
  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings and behaviour support planning
  • Provide supervision and delegate tasks to therapy assistants
  • Support use of low- and high-tech AAC/AT systems
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and ongoing CPD

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of learning disabilities, Autism, SEMH and trauma-informed practice
  • Understanding of behaviour support and safeguarding
  • Strong communication, organisation and IT skills
  • Ability to create and deliver integrated therapy plans
  • Experience working with children/young people with SEND
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable

  • Understanding of EHCP processes and SEND legislation
  • Experience with PMLD/complex needs or challenging behaviour
  • Staff training experience, Makaton/Singalong, accessible resource creation
  • Experience delivering provision mapped to EHCP outcomes

Requirements

  • Registered with RCSLT and HCPC
  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree (or equivalent)
  • Commitment to RCSLT and HCPC professional standards
