Are you a motivated, enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist with experience in Neurological rehabilitation. Are you keen to be part of a skilled and highly professional team delivering high quality care to the people of Cornwall who need neurological rehabilitation. You could be just the person we are looking for to lead and develop our Speech and Language Therapy service at Marie Therese House whilst our permanent member of staff is on maternity leave.

Main duties of the job

To develop and provide a high standard specialist speech & language therapy service for people with neurological deficits at Marie Therese House. To maintain an agreed case load within the clinical specialism, performing advanced assessment of neurological patients including those with highly complex presentations. To formulate diagnoses and treatment plans, as an autonomous practitioner. To undertake line manager duties for the team. To work alongside the Inpatient Therapy Manager, the AHP Lead for Stroke and Neurology and the Speech & Language Therapy Professional Lead, in planning, co coordinating, delivering and evaluating the service. To be instrumental in the on going development of services and practices that provide high quality care and interventions. To carry out any special duties associated with the post (e.g. representing the therapy service at various forums).

Person Specification Knowledge
  • Degree or Diploma in Speech & Language Therapy
  • HCPC Registered
  • Evidence of further formal study e.g. Postgraduate qualifications, (Postgraduate certificate/Diploma, Masters modules, or equivalent management qualification)
  • Membership of relevant professional body
  • Membership of relevant specific interest groups

  • Able to work with complex information
  • Commitment to and understanding of teams and team working
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced level assessment and treatment skills to support expert clinical practice
  • In depth knowledge of a broad range of assessment and intervention tools relevant to complex communication and swallowing in acquired neurological disorders

  • Highly developed clinical skills in neurological speech & language Therapy
  • Able to work effectively with varying work patterns and to work effectively on several issues/projects at once
Experience
  • Significant post qualification experience in assessment and management of complex acquired communication and swallowing disorders
  • Comprehensive experience of Stroke and Neurology
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills
  • Proven experience of managing a service or change process
  • Highly developed skills in managing staff, including managing challenging behaviours, emotive situations, (e.g. Attendance management, grief, illness
  • Comprehensive experience as a clinical educator of undergraduate students
  • Experience of managing the risks associated with unsupervised/lone working and working autonomously managing a complex caseload
  • Experience in budget management and business planning
