An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time (22.5 hours), permanent, Band 7 Advanced Speech and Language Therapist to work in the Community Children & Young People's Service (CYPS) in Northumberland.

We are seeking applications from registered Speech and Language Therapists with experience of working within mental health and/or learning disability services. We are interested in appointing a dedicated and committed individual that possesses a desire to work with children and young people and who can demonstrate their ability to engage and work collaboratively with others and understand complex systems to support effective pathways.

CYPS provides a single service to all children and young people aged 0-18 years living in Northumberland. This includes children and young people who may be living in difficult and challenging circumstances. The post will work across the neurodevelopmental, mental health and learning disability pathways and the successful candidate will be a core member of the multi-disciplinary assessment team.

You will provide advanced SALT assessment, intervention and recommendations for children and young people accessing these pathways. You will work as an integral member of the CYPS MDT and support the SALT provision in the service going forward.

You should have qualifications and experience relevant in this clinical field and work well as part of a close team with the ability to work independently. You will liaise closely with fellow professionals to address communication difficulties as part of a holistic, service user centred service. You will be confident in providing high quality, evidence-based assessments and interventions and possess excellent communication and organisational skills.

You will join a large, dynamic team of Speech and Language Therapy colleagues in established, multi-disciplinary teams who are committed to providing the best quality service to our patients. We will provide you with a comprehensive induction period and you will have access to ongoing clinical supervision and appraisal with development reviews that will provide you with support and the specialist skills required to meet the holistic needs of the patients in your care. The post holder will be expected to actively engage in the Trusts supervision and continuing professional development process.

The post will work 22.5 hours and be based at St Georges Park Hospital in Northumberland.

You will be required to travel to other sites across the Trust as part of the role.

• Recognised SALT degree or equivalent
• Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses/CPD to Masters level equivalence
• Post graduate level qualification relevant to area of specialism
• Registration with HCPC.
• Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
• Attendance at a leadership course

• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills including negotiation and conflict management
• Evidence of effective organisational skills
• Expert supervision skills and experience to support others
• Evidence of maintaining accurate and contemporaneous record keeping
• Be able to travel between various locations across the Trust geographical area
• Demonstrate change management skills
• Knowledge of RiO data systems and IT skills
• Experience of conduction and evaluating clinical audit

• Experience of working with CYP who have complex and behaviours that challenge
• Experience of promoting inclusive communication by developing communication-friendly environments that remove barriers
• Experience of collaborative working with families, carers and other professionals around a CYP
• Coordinating and supporting staff in the day to day provision of clinical services
• Experience and ability to work in community settings and within an MDT
• Experience of delivering appropriate specialist assessments and evidence-based interventions
• Able to provide training to carers and professionals and support professionals to consider a child's speech, language and communication skills
• Experience of providing clinical supervision to clinical staff and undertaking appraisals
• Proven ability to manage a clinical caseload in a flexible manner as required
• Knowledge of health and safety, equal opportunities legislation and policies
