Children's Community Speech and Language Therapist

Main duties of the job

A typical week might include

Managing a community clinic caseload with the support of experienced members of the team.

Carrying out formal and informal assessments in both initial and review appointments.

Providing advice, support and training to families.

Completing relevant paperwork including targets and reports.

Running small group sessions with colleagues and providing individual therapy sessions.

Job responsibilities

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is HCPC and RCSLT registered with relevant experience working with children.
  • Has experience in the assessment and management of children with a range of speech, language and communication needs.
  • Has knowledge of evidence based practice and therapy methods.
  • Brings excellent communication skills and a person centred approach.
  • Is confident working independently but enjoys being part of a team.
  • Shows a creative and flexible approach.
  • Has good IT and organisational skills.

Qualifications
  • Degree/Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Registered with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist.
Experience
  • Relevant experience at undergraduate/postgraduate level.
  • Experience of working with children.
  • Experience of NHS systems such as EMIS.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills.
  • Good analytical, problem solving and reflection skills.
  • Good IT skills: Word, database, email, internet.
  • Knowledge of assessment tools relevant to client group.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills including observation, listening and empathy.
  • Knowledge of national policies and procedures relating to children with speech, language and communication needs.
  • Awareness of standards of record keeping.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment for this client group.
