Clinical Expert Speech & Language Therapist

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced community speech and language therapist to specialise in working with adults with progressive and acquired neurological conditions - including Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson-Plus syndromes, Acquired Brain Injury and Huntington's Disease.
In this role you will work within the Rehabilitation Medicine Service multi-disciplinary team, delivering domiciliary and out-patient care. You will support the Team Leads in North-East and Northern Lincolnshire by overseeing General Community caseloads and supporting staff.

The post is based at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby, with some cross site work required in North Lincolnshire (Brigg, Scunthorpe) and travel between sites.
Provide team leadership alongside existing Team Leads, high level assessment and intervention for individuals with swallowing and communication disorders, and a high level of clinical leadership.
Responsibilities

- Coordinate work of staff in other agencies.
- Lead as clinical specialist with patients having complex swallowing/communication disorders.
- Provide diagnosis and develop treatment programmes.
- Attend ward rounds and MDT meetings on hospital sites or in community.
- Practice autonomously, demonstrating expert problem solving and clinical decision making.
- Promote a positive research culture.
- Identify, embed evidence and impact measures to enhance future activity.
- Support learning needs of individuals/team and provide personal development planning.
- Supervise and assess therapy students, assistants, other therapists and give specialist advice to other professionals.
- Lead evidence based audit and research projects.
- Propose and implement practice and policy changes.
- Deputise for Operational Lead as required.
- Lead quality improvement and service development to enhance patient wellbeing and experience.
Person Specification Qualifications
- HCPC registered.
- Appropriate degree/diploma.
- Wide range of CPD; postgraduate study at Masters level relevant to specialist area.
- Experience in complex dysphagia support to patients and MDT.
- Advanced training in dysphagia and/or communication (e.g. Videofluoroscopy, FEES, risk feeding, AAC).
- Member of RCSLT.

- Ability to prioritise care in changing environments and patient demands.
- Experience of managing staff and other resources.
