Specialist Speech & Language Therapist

Job Description

Specialist Speech & Language Therapist

Closing date: 07 June 2026.

We currently have two exciting opportunities for enthusiastic and dynamic Speech & Language Therapists to join our services: the Neuro Early Supported Discharge (ESD) Team and the Community SLT Team.

Neuro ESD is a multidisciplinary multidisciplinary team that provides time limited, intensive, specialist neuro, home based rehabilitation to patients in Southampton city and surrounding areas. The service supports acute hospital discharges and admission avoidance for patients following an acute stroke or other neurological event.

The Community Speech and Language Therapy Service supports people in their own homes, care homes and outpatient settings across Southampton and Southwest Hampshire. Patients include those recovering from strokes, people living with Parkinson's disease or dementia, and frail or older individuals who need support with communication or swallowing.

Main duties of the job
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner, assessing, diagnosing and providing timely intervention and management of communication and/or swallowing problems as a member of the team.
  • Contribute to data collection where relevant as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
  • For the Neuro ESD role: work as part of an interdisciplinary neurological community team, in close collaboration with other relevant services/agencies (e.g. acute stroke unit, community rehab teams, virtual wards, rapid response).
  • For the Community SLT role: collaborate and liaise with MDT colleagues to provide coordinated care to clients in the community setting.
  • Provide clinical support to other colleagues, including students, where appropriate.
  • Contribute to client information, manage priorities, organise equipment/resources and liaise with other SLTs about continuing care following discharge.
  • Be flexible in providing cover to community settings where most needed, as directed by the clinical services manager.
  • Contribute, wherever possible, to the administrative processes that ensure the most efficient service delivery for clients.
