Speech and Language Therapist

Job Description

Speech and Language Therapist
Location: Frewen College, Northiam Road, Rye, East Sussex
Salary: £45,000 per annum
Contract: Full-Time | Permanent
Closing Date: Friday 15 May 2026

Transform lives through language, learning, and confidence.

Are you a Speech and Language Therapist looking for a role where you can make a genuine, visible impact every single day?

At Frewen College, we are seeking a passionate and skilled Speech and Language Therapist to join our specialist team supporting children and young people with dyslexia and co-occurring Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs).

This is a rare opportunity to work in a highly specialist independent day and boarding school where therapy is fully embedded into school life, not isolated from it.

You’ll work closely with teaching staff, families, boarding teams, and external professionals to help students develop the communication, language, literacy, and study skills they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Why join Frewen College?

At Frewen, we understand that communication sits at the heart of learning, confidence, and independence.

You’ll become part of a collaborative, nurturing, and forward-thinking environment where:

  • Therapy is genuinely valued and integrated into education
  • You’ll have autonomy to shape intervention approaches
  • Students are supported holistically across school and boarding life
  • Your expertise will directly influence learning outcomes and future opportunities

This is more than a therapy role, it’s an opportunity to become part of a school community dedicated to helping neuro-diverse young people realise their potential.

The role
You’ll deliver specialist Speech and Language Therapy provision across Years
7 to Sixth Form, supporting students with:

  • Dyslexia and literacy-related language needs
  • Speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)
  • Language processing difficulties
  • Expressive and receptive language challenges
  • Neuro-diverse learning profiles and co-occurring SpLDs

Your work will include:

  • Comprehensive assessments and tailored intervention programmes
  • Individual and group therapy
  • Classroom-based support strategies
  • Whole-class study skills sessions
  • EHCP reports and Annual Reviews
  • Parent and staff training
  • Collaborative multidisciplinary working across education and boarding teams

You’ll also contribute to Frewen’s growing advisory and outreach services, supporting external schools, families, and commissioning organisations as part of the Frewen Advisory Support Team (FAST).

What makes this role different?

Unlike many traditional school-based roles, this position offers:

  • A genuinely integrated therapy model
  • The chance to influence curriculum access and study skills provision
  • Opportunities to deliver training and advisory work externally
  • A varied and intellectually rewarding caseload
  • Full involvement in the wider life of an independent boarding school

This is an ideal opportunity for an SLT who enjoys collaboration, innovation, and holistic practice.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • HCPC-registered and qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist
  • Passionate about supporting neurodiverse learners
  • Experienced in working with children and young people with dyslexia and co-occurring learning differences
  • Confident working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Skilled in delivering evidence-based, functional interventions
  • Organised, adaptable, and proactive in their approach

Experience within educational settings and contributing to EHCPs and Annual Reviews is highly desirable.

Why SLTs love working in specialist education

At Frewen College, you’ll have the time, relationships, and environment to deliver meaningful therapy that creates lasting change.

You won’t just write recommendations — you’ll see strategies implemented daily, watch confidence grow, and become part of each student’s wider journey.
