Here is an exciting opportunity for newly qualified (or soon to be newly qualified) speech & language therapist. We want a motivated and enthusiastic NQT, or a person who is returning to the profession after a break, to work as an integrated member of our acute speech & language therapy team in assessing and managing patients with acquired disorders of communication and /or swallowing, rotating between both acute ward settings and our Acute Stroke Unit.

In return, we will offer you the support and development opportunities to enhance the theoretical knowledge you have gained in university and to develop the clinical skills you will need for this caseload - thus enabling you to complete your NQT competencies. We would also expect you to complete your basic level (C) dysphagia competencies over the period of 6 12 months through supervision, observation, supported learning and training where relevant.

Main duties of the job

You will be a fully integrated member of the Adult Acute Speech & Language Therapy service, working with us to provide SALT assessment, therapy and management to a range of patients who have acquired disorders of communication /swallowing, within the scope of your skills and abilities. You will be working in rotation between acute wards and our Acute Stroke Unit, with your other band 5 colleagues.

You will provide intervention following EBP, and to ensure all patients are treated to the best of your ability, seeking help and support from the wider team as needed. You will access regular supervision and support, which will enable both your professional and clinical development to progress effectively. You will be proactive in external training opportunities, where relevant, which will help you to become an excellent therapist. You will need to have a flexible and friendly approach to both your patients and your team, and the wider professional group you will be working with.

Qualifications
  • Qualified Speech & Language Therapist
  • Registered member of HCPC
  • Registered member of RCSLT
  • 5 GCSE's or equivalent level of literacy and numeracy
Knowledge and Experience
  • Working with adults who have a range of speech, language and communication needs
  • Relevant experience at undergraduate/post graduate level (inc. clinical placements)
Personal and People Development
  • Show active interest in CPD in line with RCSLT guidelines, within area of clinical specialism
  • Willing to support student SALTs, SALTAs and volunteers where designated to do so, for their information and development
