We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Speech & Language Therapist who is keen to develop their clinical skills in the acute adult acute inpatient setting. You should be interested in the management of dysphagia and communication impairment across a broad range of disorders.

Although this role is based at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, there will be close working with the team on other trust sites with need for clinical cover at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, and potentially Andover War Memorial Hospital when staff are on leave.

We are keen to recruit someone who will promote the Speech & Language Therapy service across the Trust with passion and enthusiasm. Given the changing demands of working within the NHS, the successful post-holder will need to demonstrate flexibility, an ability to work under pressure and a willingness to become involved in future service development.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a Speech & Language Therapy Service to a wide-ranging caseload of adults with acquired speech, language and communication disorders.
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner in partnership with patients, their families, carers and other health service colleagues, to deliver integrated packages of care for adults with acquired speech, language and communication difficulties.
  • Complete relevant competencies to allow safe, effective patient care, including participation in the trust preceptorship programme.
  • When competency is established and appropriate, work bank holidays on a rota basis, agreed with the team.
  • Work directly with patients across the hospital sites in general wards; observe and develop skills in management of patients on the critical care wards.
  • Work with the MDT to optimise patient care.
Person Specification
  • Recognised degree or equivalent to practice as SLT
  • HCPC registration
  • RCSLT member
  • Experience of assessment of non-complex EDS cases with support
  • Experience of working with adults with non-complex communication disorders with support
  • Experience in assessment/ treatment of voice disorders
  • Experience of working in a cute hospital setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Highly developed non-verbal communication skills
  • Highly developed analytical and interpretive skills
  • Highly developed auditory and perceptual skills
  • Understanding of national and local strategy/ policy
  • Ability to reflect on practice
  • Flexibility
  • Work across multiple sites
  • Able to take part in bank holiday working
