Description

Pro rata Salary for 37 hours across 43 working weeks is £27,251.39 up to £35,098.16.

Full Time Salary if working 37 hours / 52 weeks is £28,398.24 up to £36,575.24.

To manage a personal caseload and work as part of a team of speech and language therapists and therapy assistants. The responsibility, as a member of the team, is to develop the provision of an efficient and effective speech and language therapy service to learners at Queen Alexandra College.

Key Responsibilities

Duties and Key Areas of Responsibility

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Accept clinical responsibility for a caseload of learners and organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities, resources and time.
  • Provide clinical assessment for learners with a range of conditions, disabilities and complex social and functional needs.
  • Provide appropriate direct and indirect interventions and strategies for learners.
  • Provide support to academic staff and relevant stakeholders to maximise the communication environment for students.
  • Actively participate in departmental in-service training programmes by attending and delivering presentations, tutorials, individual training sessions, peer review, external courses and professional clinical interest groups.
  • Facilitate speech and language therapy representation at relevant MDT meetings to ensure delivery of a coordinated multidisciplinary service and to integrate recommendations into the overall college programme.
  • Ensure learner records are kept to a level that satisfies clinical standards and meet the needs of the college.
  • In coordination with relevant college staff, follow the dysphagia referral and support process.
  • Perform other duties commensurate with the post.

Departmental Responsibilities
  • Work as part of a team within the Speech and Language Therapy Department and the wider Multi Disciplinary Team including the Behaviour Team and Class staff.
  • Participate in regular departmental meetings.
  • Contribute to the quality review of the service and adapt practice and provision as needed.
Professional Development
  • Maintain personal development through use of off site and in house training, contact and involvement with relevant special interest groups, attendance of in service training, and review of literature to complete the CPD required by the RCSLT.
Personal Development
  • Participate in learning and development activity relevant to performance in the post or to the College as a whole.
Other Duties
  • Undertake any other duties not listed above that are commensurate with the role, as directed by Senior Managers.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Essential
  • Relevant degree 2:2 and above.
  • Registered with HCPC.
  • Completed or willing to work towards completion of Newly Qualified Practitioner's Competencies.
  • Can communicate clearly and effectively and relate well with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to form and promote positive relationships with staff, students, relatives/carers and other agencies and professionals.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own workload within the allocated caseload and other duties.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Registered with RCSLT.
