Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist - Inpatients Stroke & Early Supported Discharge

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Speech & Language Therapist to join the Inpatient Stroke and Early Supported Discharge (ESD) team. The post is 0.8 WTE to be worked across the 2 services.

The inpatient service is based at the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. The ESD service is community based working from the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

This post holder will work alongside Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dietitians and assistants. They will support clinical pathways, keep up to date with evidence based practice, drive service development and support more junior staff. The post holder should have clinical experience in Stroke/ Neurology and a proven track record of implementing service improvement.

Main responsibilities
  • Provide expert SLT care to patients within the inpatient stroke and ESD teams.
  • Conduct swallowing and communication assessments and treatments in accordance with SSNAP standards.
  • Offer support and education to colleagues both within and outside of the teams.
  • Demonstrate evidence of clinical expertise and maintain an evidence based approach to practice.
Qualifications
  • HCPC acknowledged qualification in SLT
  • HCPC registration
  • Stroke qualification or MSc modules relevant to the post
Experience
  • Extensive experience in this clinical area.
  • Teaching and presentation experience.
  • Experience in audit and outcome measures.
  • Working within MDT teams influencing service delivery.
Knowledge
  • Recent relevant CPD.
  • Experience implementing service development initiatives.
  • Implementation of evidence based practice.
  • Advanced clinical skill and reasoning.
  • Awareness of national and local drivers for this clinical area.
Skills
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Capacity to prioritise workload under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills across modalities.
  • Valid driving licence for use in the UK.
  • Experience in Video Fluoroscopy.

Salary

£49,387 to £56,515 a year (pro rata)
