Salary: £39,959 - £48,117 per annum (pro rata)

Hours: Full time - 37.5 hours per week (6 day therapy service, future 7 day service)

Job Overview

This Band 6 Stroke Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) role is a rotational post across the acute, rehabilitation and HASU units of the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust. The position is part of a comprehensive stroke centre with a 6 day on call therapy service, where cross site working and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams is essential.

Main Duties
  • Provide specialist speech and language therapy services to adults with complex communication, cognition and dysphagia disorders across acute and rehabilitation pathways.
  • Support the clinical lead in the daily management of the stroke service, maintaining operational accountability.
  • Train, develop and supervise students, Therapy Assistant Practitioners and non qualified practitioners.
  • Participate in instrumental assessment and promote quality improvement initiatives within the regional stroke delivery network.
  • Assist with the delivery of VFS and FEES clinics, receiving training in these modalities if required.
  • Support personal and staff CPD, clinical governance and the quality agenda.
Person Specification Qualifications & Education
  • Recognised degree or master's in Speech and Language Pathology.
  • HCPC and RCSLT registration.
  • Evidence of CPD in relevant clinical areas.
  • Post graduate courses in relevant clinical specialties.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Specialist knowledge of acquired communication, cognition and dysphagia disorders.
  • Experience managing dysphagia and communication disorders in stroke settings (acute and rehabilitation).
  • Understanding of multidisciplinary teamwork and the roles of other health professionals.
  • Experience providing training and education to MDT members, patients and carers.
  • Experience of using computer based programmes in assessment and therapy.
  • Knowledge of high and low tech AAC systems.
  • Experience of clinical supervision and training of others.
  • Videofluoroscopy training or experience; FEES exposure preferred.
