Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
We have a band 6 position within our team based at Frimley Park Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience working within acute stroke, acute neuro and general wards.
The role will include working as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing evidence based speech and language therapy assessment, diagnosis and treatment for the acute SLT caseload. It also involves developing knowledge and skills in specialist areas, undertaking role competency frameworks and mentoring or line managing junior staff.
Main duties of the job
- Completed dysphagia competencies and at least 9 months independence working with an acute dysphagia caseload.
- Completed your NQP framework and evidence of managing patients with complex dysphagia or communication impairment with minimal support, ideally with placement educator training to take students on clinical placement.
- Daily contact with a friendly team of SLT colleagues and close interaction with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Supported in all aspects of this varied role, with active encouragement of CPD, regular team meetings and discussion groups, and opportunities to gain competencies in videofluoroscopy, tracheostomy and leadership.
- Providing evidence based speech and language therapy assessment, diagnosis and treatment for a designated group of patients.

Skills and experience
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification.
- HCPC registration.
- Significant relevant clinical experience in complex case management.
- Proven ability to develop and implement specialist programmes of care.
- Evidence of maintaining clinical competence and staying updated with clinical developments.,
- Completed Level C Dysphagia Competencies (RCSLT).
- Advance practitioner competencies or working towards, e.g., videofluoroscopy.
- Experience in audit and research.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills, including observation, listening and empathy.
- Collaborative team approach to working.
- Strong analytical and clinical problem solving skills.
- Standard keyboard and IT skills; proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Aware of record keeping standards.

Salary: £41,957 to £50,387 a year, inclusive of HCAS.
