Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Therapeutic Hub, LBS
We are recruiting a speech and language therapist for a fixed term maternity leave cover. The successful applicant will be part of the Therapeutic Hub within Childrens Social Care, a multidisciplinary team comprising SaLTs, psychotherapists, counsellors and specialist social workers. The role will be managed by a senior SaLT and will involve work across three Children's Homes, the Youth Justice Service and Early Help to Children services.
Employers: Cognus Therapies team, a multidisciplinary group providing speech and language therapy in the London Borough of Sutton and surrounding areas. The role is 0.8 FTE (four days a week) with the possibility to extend to full time by adding one day with the Cognus Therapies education team.
Main duties of the role
- Direct and indirect work with children and young people, including assessment, therapy and reviews.
- Direct work with families, parents and carers.
- Consultations with social workers and social care staff.
- Assessment clinics for Youth Justice.
- Working in children's homes providing training, support and advice, and occasional one to one sessions.
- Participation in formulation meetings.
- Creation and updating of communication passports for children, young people and families.
- Supporting young people to prepare for court proceedings.
- Maintaining case notes, reports and records to RCSLT standards.
- Providing clinical supervision to staff members.
- Collaborating with partner agencies to support transitions.
Registration: All applicants must hold registration with the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
Qualifications
- Degree level education or equivalent.
- Relevant qualifications and registration with HCPC.
Experience
- Experience as a paediatric speech and language therapist.
- Knowledge and experience of working in a trauma informed context and SEMH.
- Ability to prioritise and deliver results to high standards.
- Excellent organisational and problem solving skills.
- Lead others by setting a positive example and acting as a role model.
- Adherence to RCSLT and HCPC policies and procedures.
- Commitment to safeguarding and protection of children.
