Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Rehabilitation

Key Responsibilities
- Provide assessment and management of neurorehabilitation patients, including dysphagia management and development of communication therapy plans.
- Work across acute Stroke Unit and Alderbury Neuro Rehabilitation ward, with opportunities to gain experience on acute wards.
- Use videofluoroscopy and/or Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) as required and pursue competencies in these modalities.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and collaborate with other health professionals.
- Receive regular clinical supervision, monthly CPD sessions, peer support and evidence based practice sessions.
- Contribute to service development projects, outcome measures and academic collaborations with nearby institutions.
Person Specification
- HCPC registration
- RCSLT registration
- Recognised degree in Speech & Language Therapy
- Experience providing training to families, health professionals and students
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
- Knowledge of adult safeguarding, vulnerable adults and mental capacity legislation
- Awareness of occupational health & safety, infection control and Clinical Governance principles
- Familiarity with national policies such as NICE guidelines
- Understanding of professional ethics and regulatory bodies (RCSLT, HCPC)
- Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses
- Experience developing specialist skills such as videofluoroscopy and FEES
- Postgraduate experience with dysphagia management across a varied caseload
- Experience with assessment and management of various communication disorders
- Experience working with tracheostomised patients
- Capability to supervise junior staff and provide dysphagia training
