Surrey Downs Health & Care is offering a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist position on a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2027. The role is part time (18.75 or 22.50 hours per week) with a requirement to be available on Thursdays from 8:00 to 16:00. The salary is £41,957 - £50,387 pro rata per annum including fringe benefits.
The successful candidate will join the Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team at Dorking Community Hospital, supporting outpatient clinics, home visits and care homes across Surrey Downs. A valid UK driving licence and access to a car are essential.
Main duties of the job
- Work autonomously as a specialist SLT within the community MDT, delivering a specialist standard of assessment, clinical diagnosis, treatment and management of communication and swallowing impairments in adults.
- Provide differential diagnosis of communication/swallowing impairments, identify patient-centred SMART goals and offer appropriate therapy programmes.
- With support from senior team members, take a lead role in the delivery of SLT services in Stroke Supported Discharge.
- Continue to develop skills in communication and dysphagia management, stay up to date with the current evidence base, provide specialist training to other professionals, and assist with the development of therapists, assistants and students.
- Support the leadership of the CNRT in research, development and evaluation of services and policies.

- Qualified Speech & Language Therapist
- HCPC registration
- RCSLT membership
Experience
- Experience of working in adult neurology in the NHS.
- Minimum of 2 years working with adults.
- Experience in videofluoroscopy.
- Experience working in stroke.
- Experience working with non neuro dysphagia caseload.
Skills
- Evidence of autonomy working with a broad adult caseload.
- Evidence of MDT working.
- Delivered training.
Other
- Valid licence to drive in the UK with access to a vehicle for work purposes.
- Experience with evidence-based practice, CPD, regular supervision and career development.
