Work within the Early Years Speech and Language Therapy and Child Development Service Teams to provide a highly specialist assessment and diagnostic service as part of a multidisciplinary team, for assessment and diagnosis of Autism and related conditions using relevant standardised assessments of children's language, communication and interaction skills (such as the ADOS)

Deliver highly specialist clinical services to children across the age range including developing, implementing and evaluating specialist programmes of care, advice and support for preschool children with developmental speech, language delays / disorders and social communication differences. The role will include supporting parents, clients and other health and education professionals in all issues related to client management and delivering parent workshops to support understanding of ASD pre and post-diagnosis.

Main duties of the job
  • To conduct highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessments to support the differential diagnosis of broad range of complex neuro-developmental conditions. This will involve assessment and differential diagnosis of children with probable comorbidities and differing social and educational contexts.
  • To assess, develop and implement highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy programmes of care to meet the needs of clients, in collaboration with other professionals adapting practice to meet individual patients' circumstances.
  • To write comprehensive reports to be shared with families and a range of professionals, reflecting specialist knowledge including multidisciplinary assessment/review reports, EHCNA, Annual Reviews and Tribunal reports.
  • To provide advice and support to others regarding the management and care of children and young people with social communication differences and SLCN.
Qualifications
  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree or equivalent
  • Health Care Professionals Council Licence to Practice
  • Current registered membership of HCPC and RCSLT
  • Continued Professional Development Portfolio including evidence of reflective practice, completion of specialist training/ courses and additional study courses attended and experience gained
  • Evidence of Autism assessment experience.
  • Completed ADOS assessment training, has been regularly using ADOS assessments with preschool and school aged children and is confident in administering the assessment, interpreting the findings and scoring the assessment.
  • Further study to Master's or equivalent level in clinical field
  • Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Networks
Experience
  • Extensive experience of working with children with speech, language and communication disorders and social communication differences including those associated with complex needs (at least 4 years postgraduate experience).
  • In-depth experience within specialist area/area of service delivery (ASD)
  • Experience in the assessment and management of children with Autism
  • Ability to make differential diagnoses on the basis of evidence from assessment seeking advice as appropriate
  • Extensive experience in participating in MDT diagnostic assessments and contributing to MDT reports
  • Extensive experience of multi-disciplinary and inter agency working
  • Collaborative work with parents and other professionals, across settings
  • Experience of planning, delivering and evaluating training to a range of audiences
  • Experience in supervising and line managing other SLTs
  • Experience of providing a range of care planning necessary to address the SLC needs of children and young people
  • Experience of supporting children, families and schools in line with the Children and Families Act 2014 including contribution to statutory assessments (Education Health and Care Plan Needs Assessments), contribution to the annual review process and delivery of SALT provision as specified in Education health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Experience in contributing to policy, planning and service development
  • Experience working as a highly specialist speech & language therapist in relevant clinical specialism in last 18 months
