Speech and Language Therapist - Salary: Up to £39,000 per annum. Location: Shropshire, with travel to other service locations. Reports to: Head of Clinical Services.
About the Role
We are looking for a passionate Speech and Language Therapist to join our Clinical Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT). You will provide specialist Speech & Language Therapy support to children and young people, working collaboratively across our services to promote well being, independence, and communication skills. This role includes both direct intervention and advisory responsibilities, supporting staff, carers, and other professionals to meet the complex communication needs of young people with learning disabilities, autism, and behaviours that challenge.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments to identify communication needs and develop personalised intervention programmes (individual or group).
- Monitor and evaluate client progress, adjusting interventions as needed.
- Maintain accurate and detailed clinical records, reports, and outcome evaluations in line with RCSLT & HCPC standards.
- Participate in multi agency planning and provide input to intervention strategies.
- Support service users in contributing to their own intervention plans where appropriate.
- Provide guidance to care and education staff using verbal and non verbal communication tools.
- Represent clients at MDT meetings, ensuring integration of therapy into wider care plans.
- Maintain and develop professional competence through CPD, supervision, and reflective practice.
- Keep up to date with evidence based approaches relevant to the children and young people you support.
Teaching, Training & Supervision
- Train and mentor staff in implementing communication strategies and intervention plans.
- Support coordination and delivery of training for staff, carers, and other professionals.
- Provide advice and guidance to other members of the clinical team to improve practice.
- Participate in staff appraisals and personal development programmes.
Administration & IT
- Maintain comprehensive client records using Microsoft Word and other IT packages.
- Contribute to administrative duties including reporting and analysis.
Health & Safety
- Take responsibility for the safety of yourself, colleagues, and children.
- Remain vigilant to protect service users from all forms of abuse and report any concerns.
- Contribute to a safe, secure, and supportive environment at all times.
General Responsibilities
- Follow policies and procedures, particularly in safeguarding, child protection, whistleblowing, complaints, and behaviour management.
- Participate in team meetings, supervisions, and annual reviews.
- Promote a positive professional image and culture across all services.
- Carry out other reasonable duties as required to support the organisation.
